Tim Tam the Koala!

So last spring ya’ll know I studied abroad in New Zealand through the Australearn program(best time of my life!). After I got home Australearn decided to adopt a koala and I was lucky enough to win the contest for naming him. Tim Tam (which is a delicious Australian cookie which I ate wayyyy too many of abroad), my adorable new friend just came out of her pouch for the first time. Tim Tam’s Page check out my darling! She is doing so well and Australearn’s got a great project going for him!

So cute! and so good to know Australearn isn’t just helping students travel but also helping the animals of Australia and New Zealand! Now I just need to find a way to visit Tim Tam!

Lonley Planet- some great tips on travel! → inside-digital.blog.lonelyplanet.com

That carry-on bag might not get carried on, depending on who you fly with
Some airlines, especially budget airlines, restrict hand baggage size to less than what is specified in the International Air Transport Associationregulations. Check before you travel, as many airlines now charge to check a bag into the hold. In some cases this fee is higher if you haven’t prebooked. This may mean deciding how many suitcases to take when you’re booking your flight.

There’s only one real secret to travelling light
The development and use of a proper personal packing list. By that, I don’t mean the sort of ‘packing list’ that one can find at travel accessory shops, or all over the internet. Rather, a unique, well-considered, carefully refined document that becomes a blueprint for how you travel, a sort of contract you make with yourself – a personal pledge that you will never put anything in your bag that isn’t on your list. See Doug Dyment’s essential packing site One Bag

These are just a few of the new tips Lonley Planet has recently blogged about to promote their new book, I think some of the tips are great and some are all not that relevant but I will definitely look more into the book. Check out the link for the rest of the blog!

Raiders of the Lost Mayan Caves-Belize

So if you know me at all, you may know the words action, adventure, and adrenaline tend to draw my attention really quickly. So while planning cruise activities for Belize, I came across this land excusion…

Raiders of the Lost Mayan Caves! Carnival grabbed my attention with this intro “If action and adventure is what you are looking for, be prepared for a thrill of a lifetime as you trek your way up a hillside trail in the Belizean jungle, seeking the Dragon’s Mouth!” Well I like action and adventure…so I am soooo doing this excusion

Here is a pic of someone in one of these caves…ok so this doesn’t look that exciting but some of the description includes things such as…ziplines, swinging extensions bridges, and rappeling down cliff faces…this reminds me of some of the stuff I did in New Zealand @ Waitomo caves

http://www.waitomo.com/ Check it out!

Also, reading some forums I found this nice couple who shared all their pics from the trip, seems like an amazing time! http://picasaweb.google.com/digitalbats/Dec2009#

Can’t wait to get there!!

Belize it is...let's go

So here we are, mid February, a little behind the curve of starting but time to go, that means a little something about Beauty I think to start. So in 18 days, me and 7 friends will be boarding a cruise ship (Carnival) to hit up the Western Carribean, yes we will be those Spring Breakers, but hey its senior year, last chance to let loose. That being said, we have been talking about the various places we want to see, and things we want to do. This has me concluding that my choice for the category of beauty will have to be…The belize scuba diving reefs. Now this isn’t exactly a distinct location but Belize is known for being one of the top 3 places to dive in the world, so it must be amazing! Specifically Glover’s Reef is known for its amazing wall dive. Here is a picture I pulled from Matt Davis’s Blog where he talks about his own Belize adventures.

I can’t imagine visiting this country and not getting to experience this amazing view.

My brother also got the opportunity to Scuba dive Belize when he was in high school (hes 23 now) and said it was one of the most incredible things he has ever done, he talked about see dolphins come up over the Reef wall and swim all around him. I wish I had been there to see that, but maybe I will be getting my chance in a few weeks!
